Schools
In recent years curriculum demands, funding availability, teachers and PTA’s combined, have seen the number of outdoor fixed equipped play areas and trim trails increase. Research suggests however that many schools are unaware of the complexities and requirements involved in both the inspections and ongoing maintenance of their substantial playground investment.
Subsequently a number of schools have opened facilities which are being used by school children without the school having conducted a post installation inspection or planned annual inspections. Having these inspections completed and all appropriate paperwork in place could help your school defend an injury claim in court or more importantly save a child’s life.
Nurseries
As with schools there has been a marked increase in play provision in nursery facilities both private and public throughout the UK and Ireland traditionally these are facilities with smaller playgrounds which are exclusively for the children who attend the nursery and are supervised by the nursery staff. It is therefore very important that these facilities have post installation inspections and ongoing annual inspections to ensure compliance to the appropriate European standards and that the facilities are safe for use.
Private Sector Enterprise
Installation and maintenance contractors and facility management companies regularly use the services of Play Services Ireland to assist with consultation and design advice as well and carrying out post installation inspections on completed projects to ensure that these are inline and compliant with the appropriate European standards.
Post Installation inspections are often requested by the client to ensure their new facility has been installed correctly before payment is made.

Hotels
There has been an increase in the number of hotels installing playgrounds for their clients in order to meet the requirements of families with children. It is important that each Hotel follows the recommendations in the European standards EN1176 and ensures that their playgrounds are inspected regularly and are safe for use.
